I’ve been making up stories most of my life. Growing up in a neighborhood with only boys and a big brother who was usually trying to ditch me, I spent a lot of time reading. When I wasn’t reading, I was imagining my own books. After college and several years in the P.R. field, I decided to try my hand at a novel. I was pregnant at the time, and I think there must have been something in those pregnancy hormones. Two years after that decision, I had a finished book and a contract with Silhouette Romance. (Okay, I’ve glossed over the hair-pulling struggle of actually writing that first book, but all the pain vanished when I got the “call”.)

I wrote seven books for Silhouette Romance under a pen name, Kristina Logan, and then moved on to single title contemporary romance, writing books under my real name for Avon, NAL and most recently for Pocket Books where I wrote the Angel’s Bay Series.

In January 2011, I began self publishing some of my backlist titles that had gone out of print and for which the rights had reverted to me. I was shocked at the success of those books. In July of 2011, SUMMER SECRETS had climbed to #1 on Amazon, #1 on B&N, and #1 on the New York Times Bestseller List! By the end of 2011, 10 of my titles had appeared on the USA Today and New York Times bestseller lists for over 42 weeks.

Having had such tremendous success self publishing, I decided to move on to ebook originals an began with the WISH SERIES which includes: A SECRET WISH, JUST A WISH AWAY and WHEN WISHES COLLIDE. All of the books can be read on their own, but they are connected by the theme of wishes.

I’m now working on a connected family series, THE CALLAWAYS, who were born to “serve and protect”. This big, blended Irish family, many of whom are San Francisco firefighters, has lots of interesting characters and each book is filled with romance, emotion, sometimes a little mystery and often a little adventure. The first book is ON A NIGHT LIKE THIS and features Aiden Callaway, a smokejumper getting over a tragedy and the former girl next door, Sara Davidson, whose teenage crush on the bad boy Aiden is suddenly back in full force.

Book #2 in the CALLAWAYS, SO THIS IS LOVE features Emma Callaway, a hot arson investigator and Max Harrison, a cool homicide detective. Sparks fly when these two get together! Book #3 in the Callaway Series will be out in July of 2013.

Since that first book I wrote while pregnant, I’ve published another 33 titles and my kids are all grown up. It’s been a wonderful creative journey and I’m really excited that journey is filled with new options and choices. I love being able to bring readers books more frequently, and self publishing allows me to do that. It also allows me to sell my digital books a little bit cheaper than the big publishers and give my readers an affordable reading habit!

I grew up a very avid reader. I got my love of reading from my mother, who filled our home with overflowing shelves of books. She was the one who first came up with the idea of writing a romance novel and completed her first novel a few years before me. When I first started writing, we traveled to writers’ conferences together and learned the craft, but mostly we just had a lot of fun. It was wonderful to have her support and encouragement. She was in the audience when I won the RITA for DANIEL’S GIFT, and I don’t think I’ll ever forget the expression on her face. While, she never fulfilled her own publishing dreams, she kept on writing, as much for the joy of it as anything. And some days when the writing seems “hard” or when the ever changing publishing business takes another spin, I think of her and remember that it’s always about the story. And the next best thing to reading is writing.

I hope to continue on for many more books, because the ideas just keep coming. When I’m not writing, I’m enjoying my family and the usually good California weather. A native Californian, I’ve lived at both ends of the state, and while I sometimes miss the hot summer nights of Southern California, I love the beautiful bays and hillsides of Northern California and the intriguing city of San Francisco, one of my favorite settings.
