Summer is fading, fall is upon us and so are the new ad campaigns of AW13. Here are the top five must-see ad campaigns to look out for this season.

Mulberry

Model of the moment Cara Delevingne has fronted campaigns as far reaching as Fendi to Saint Laurent this season, but it is Mulberry’s twit-twooing campaign that is our top of the bunch. Fashion photographer Tim Walker, who is renowned for the extravagant and theatrical, doesn’t disappoint with Mulberry’s romantic woodland theme. Shot on location at the 18th century Shotover House in Oxfordshire, the campaign is quintessentially British and possesses an air of mystery and magic with its inside forest. Cara’s English rose complexion, fierce eyes and power brows are also a perfect fit with the other stars of the show – the tawny owls. As a whole, the campaign reminds us of a modern day fairytale with a hint of Snow White and Sleeping Beauty.

Burberry Prorsum

For those of us who like to see a bit of love and attraction in a campaign, then Burberry’s use of real-life couple Sienna Miller and Tom Sturridge is likely to tick the right boxes. It is never easy to fake real romance, but it is all too easy to add a celebrity stamp, so Burberry has taken this one step further and cleverly combined the two. Running alongside their latest ads is also a social campaign with Google titled ‘Burberry Kisses’, allowing anybody and everybody to send real kisses around the world. Compatible with desktop cameras and touch screen devices, the ‘kiss recognition technology’ captures a user’s kiss that can then be shared with a personalised message. Out of all the campaigns this season this is not only likely to be the most up-to-date, but the one with the most heart and soul.

Dior

Another magical campaign this season is Dior’s Secret Garden of Versailles. As a slightly more seductive, moodier and darker take on the fairytale than Mulberry (think Alice in Wonderland), the campaign tells the story of the hidden secrets of Versailles. Model Daria Strokous takes us on a journey through the The Château de Versailles’ hidden passageways, enchanted forest, parks and last but not least, secret garden. On our way we meet flower-fairies who inhabit the surroundings that help us unravel these secrets in an extraordinary world of fantasy and intrigue. If you ever imagined yourself as a Princess lost in an enchanted forest, then this campaign would have been plucked from your dream.

Alexander McQueen

Alexander McQueen AW13 Ad Campaign

Alexander McQueen has a reputation for being striking, so it is no question that the brand’s AW13 campaign follows suit. Fronted by Edie Campbell and reminiscent of the opulent Elizabethan era, the impressive shots need no long explanation. The black and white is simple but effective, allowing the clothes to steal the show. As the collection itself took inspiration from Popes, Nuns and Queen Elizabeth I, the campaign highlights the luxurious corsets, headdresses and gowns in the same way a Queen would want in her Royal portrait.

Tom Ford

Falling in line with Tom Ford’s burst of colour on the catwalk this season is his AW13 ad campaign. Starring models Gemma Refoufi, Soo Joo Park, Henrieth Paul (sparking a strong resemblance to Grace Jones) and Zuzanna Bijoch, the comic book inspired collection is given the right amount of K-pow with an eccentric techno palette. Ford’s graphic prints are perfectly accentuated thanks to the Bowie-esque make-up, as lightning bolts, check and animal prints are all brought to life with a sweeping of fluorescent eyeshadow across the eyes. What makes this campaign a tad more special than the rest though, is how the multi-talented Tom Ford not only designed the collection but shot the campaign too.
