Riya is a popular Indian model and an Indian film actress. Her family members including her mother, grandmother and sister are already distinguished actresses in the film industry.

Riya graduated from the Rani Birla Girls’ College in Kolkata and after her graduation she learnt fashion designing at the National Institute of Fashion Technology, New Delhi. She also learnt Kathak, kick boxing and belly dancing.

Riya did some small modeling assignments which helped her to expose to the film industry. She became popular as a model when she was appearing in various music videos before appearing in films.

Riya’s first film performance was in ‘Vishkanya’. She next appeared in Bharathiraja’s Tamil movie of ‘Taj Mahal’. The film ‘Love You Hamesa’ was supposed to be her first Bollywood film but the work had got delayed until 2006.

Riya mostly appearing in films for small roles or for playing small cameos and most of the successful films where she performed a leading role are mainly small budgeted films.

Apart from Bollywood films, Riya appeared in several other language films including Bengali, , English, Telegu, Malayalam, and Tamil. Her performance in the very first English film was ‘It Was Raining That Night’. This English film was a remake Bengali film of ‘Shei Brishtir Raat’.

She became rank 9th on Femina 50 Most Beautiful Women which was published in the September issue of the magazine in 2007. She had played a role as a jury member for the 2008 Final of the Mr. India contest.
